If you don't really care what the number is, so long as it is unique to the device, you can look first for a serial number from ROM, next for Bluetooth or WiFi device id, then phone IMEI or ESN, maybe an embedded flash device serial number, and as a last resort, an assigned id. If you prefix whatever you get with the source type (eg. ROM,BT,IMEI,FLASH+<mfg>), you should have a reasonably unique device id.
As others have mentioned, there are more ways. Just depends on how reliable/secure/unique it needs to be, and to what extent you'll go to achieve it. -- yisdersomenimororsisasisdenderisorsis?
