I can feel your frustration. But I don't think fiddling with any preferences
or what have you will solve your problem. I have had a similar experience
with PODS. Have you already tried the following?

    - Uninstall PODS.
    - Uninstall any stray POSE or Palm Simulators you might have.
    - Uninstall all JAVA JDK's
    - Install PODS, accepting all the defaults.
    - Check to see if it works.
    - Install any JDK's that you need,
    - Check to see if PODS still works (It should)
    - Let me know how it goes.
