Actually, SuperWaba has all the advantages you list of CASL (cross-platform, ability to compile to native code on Palm OS, access to native libraries, fast VM) with the additional advantages that it's Java language (object oriented, great tools support) and that it runs on more platforms: Palm, Pocket PC, Symbian, Linux, and (coming soon) BlackBerry OS. It's as close to "write once, run anywhere" as any mobile platform I have used--vastly better in this respect than Java ME.
