thanx for the reply. yes i did try DmFindDatabase(). for this i need to know the name of the database. i tries "Messages Database" and "SMSMessages2". but both don't seem to give me the correct local ID. i was able to find the local id in the Treo i have here. but i want to make the app portable.
so is anybody aware of which databases are associated with "Messages" and "Phone".

DmFindDatabase() - you need to find out which applications are registered
for these purposes tho.
