I received an email from Palm just a short while ago (hours), saying that I needed to log into my account to keep it active. I logged in with no problems. Maybe in your case, your account had been deactivated due to inactivity or a human error or bug in Palm's system. Try emailing them again using that same email address, or maybe look around on their site to find another one related to web support. My personal experience with Palm's website is that it has been a bit flakey, but so far I've been able to work around problems every time.
