Trying further, I removed my xproto PBIN and ran the above
command with "-1 xproto", instead of "world" to recreate it.
This rebuilt the xproto PBIN, and also upgraded gentoo-bashcomp,
setuptools, and consolekit.

Now when I try the original command to upgrade "world", cave no longer
says "Eek!", but now fails with a slightly different error:

Error:
  * In program cave resolve -c -Cs --purge */* -b */* -Rn --resume-file
/home/chutz/resume.cmd --one-binary-per-slot world -Sx -sx:
  * When finding vias:
  * When deciding upon an origin ID to use for
'x11-proto/xproto:0::(create_binary)':
  * No repository suitable for 'x11-proto/xproto-7.0.23-r1:0::gg3-desktop-bin'
with destination type create_binary has been configured
(paludis::ConfigurationError)

Really not sure what to make of this message.
