How "invalid" are we talking?  Not mentioning available new versions
of a package?  Not recognising which packages are installed (and which
version)?  Not knowing which USE-flags, etc. were used?

How exactly does eix do this?  A DB of available packages but looking
up installed packages, configurations, etc. whenever you ask it
anything?
