Yo,

The official Mandriva 2006 glib version is 2.8, whereas the
development (cooker) version is 2.10. So it seems that the
pan rpm from SoS was compiled on a machine with a cooker version.

So you have to recompile yourself. If using the source from the
pan website is not ok, you can use the source rpm from cooker.
The following 3 commands should do it:
(assuming you have all required development packages, which may
not be the case if you do not recompile packages usually...)

wget
ftp://ftp.proxad.net/mirrors/ftp.mandriva.com/MandrivaLinux/devel/cooker/SRPMS/main/pan-0.97-1mdk.src.rpm
rpm --rebuild pan-0.97-1mdk.src.rpm
rpm -Uvh /usr/src/RPM/RPMS/i586/pan-0.97-0.1.20060mdk.i586.rpm
