Let me explain to you why in the real world it's wrong to push that
topic , while in theory you might be somewhat right . You want to push
the Windows behaviour , that a lot of people are used to - to Nautilus .
Valid point in theory , it would be so nice to have the option to make
renaming behave exactly as you like . Though - what happens in practice
- there are tens of little things no less important than this one , that
people want , and not every one of them can be put in settings , or
implemented just because a lot of people are used to it . The developers
of an app want it to be perfectly thought out , and with some legacy
support , but the second one is not a priority (more on that with my
third point) .
Secondly - some of us really don't like the old behaviour , for good
reasons . It took some getting used to , but I'm very happy to use F2 ,
and not worry about getting into rename by accident when I'm trying to
do some kind of selection.
Thirdly - we have to ,at some point , get rid of the old and less
thought out solutions , no matter how many people have gotten used to
them . You say it's a big thing , and so many users are used to it -
well if that's a big thing , and we don't want to change it , then we
should forget about any kind of progress on a more fundamental level.
Fourthly - the problem at hand is too small and too
unclear/controversial in terms of a solution , so that developers would
take it seriously and modify Nautilus to resolve it .
I'm in the discussion only to clarify some of this stuff , because I
personally took my sweet time understanding it , when I got in to the
Ubuntu ecosystem about an year ago . You may think you've got a very
good solution , but really assessing it and getting it through to
implementation , requires taking into account some real-world and people
factors .

Apperantly you do not. It is not convenient what you aren't used to,
period. It does not matter at all what reasoning you come up with.
