Hi Den, The two part are one vehicle - it is articulated and steers by a couple of hydraulic rams between the front and back units.
Both parts are motorised, each driven by a Ford V6 (although I think some had a Mercedes unit). The body shell is made of GRP and the whole thing floats and can swim across water driven by its tracks (it is much better at this than the Alvis Stalwart (Stolly) ever was in my opinion).
