Ed,
 the "print  shot screen thingy" on my laptop won't work either. But
as a workaround I go to into Start, Programs, Accessories,
Accessibility, On Screen Keyboard.
The PSC button there prints the screen fine. I just slide the whole
OnScreen Keyboard down to the lower left corner with the PSC button
just peeking out and get a 98% clear screen shot. When saved in Paint
or other graphics program it's simple to delete or crop out the little
corner of keyboard in the screen shot.
