I've been using maxtor drives since about 1992. Actually longer since DEC-VAX computers used maxtors going back to 1986. In fact, I still have some working that I ripped out of old pc's that I had in 1996, and they are still going strong. What I do is for $10 from ebay I get an IDE to usb cable and power supply, it plugs right into the internal drive and it effectively becomes an external usb drive. I use my old drives as backup drives; I have 3 drives working like that right now, and inaddition a DVD burner that my wife uses because her laptop only has a CD burner. More recently I've bought for somewhere around $80 from staples a maxtor usb drive (looks a bit like the black monolith from 2001) and those are 500GB usb drives and all self contained. The usb drive is so fast that I can even burn DVD's from the usb drive without coping files to my C drive first (that used to be a big problem.)
Anyway, I hear a lot of complaints about maxtor but I've been using them for going on 15 years and they are the only drives that I have that have never failed me. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Papermodels II" group.
