For me the $343.72 cost was heavy compared to regularly buying discs but it felt good having a heavy, all metal “library” to store the Beta models, monthly club meeting photos, creative writing efforts, tax info, important e-mails, etc. Last week 11/20/08 the Lacie external drive refused to appear on my desk top. I disconnected, then reconnected the unit and a message appeared “could not read disc insertion.” I took the unit to the Mac sales and service center; days later I was told: The hard drive is not mounting. The hard drive is an unsupported format. There is no data on the hard drive. Service charge? Sixty dollars. For those members who may have a Lacie the only tip off I am able to offer is that I remember the Lacie was slow to respond the last two times I accessed information before the unit died. So folks, I spent $ 403.72 and lost all my work, research, and information for the past two years. My discs from 2002 are still working beautifully. Bob Penikas ************** One site has it all.
