I see you prefer the Fat-32 format.
I have made the error of believing Microsoft tested the NTFS format.
I have lost several External Hard drives from electronics failure and I have
had several with corrupted formats but they were all Fat-32.
I guess I've been lucky with NTFS formatted externals Hard drives.

That does sometimes work and can be a lifesaver. The thing with Mr Hard
Drive is that even if he dies, your data is still on his platter inside.
The problem lies in the interface not being a viable system any longer
due to failure of Mr Hard Drives's electronic stuff that allows you to
access the data on the platter. It can be recovered but needs to go to a
specialised company who dismantle the drive in a sterile environment and
recover the data for you...at a price...here in Oz it starts at about
1200 buckeroonies and goes up from there.
The exception to this is if friend Microsoft's NTFS (Not Too Freakin'
Smart) filesystem becomes corrupt AND the hard drive dies...then you're
up the creek, no paddle and in a barbed wire canoe.
