Aleene's Tacky Glue sold in a brown or brownish gold plastc container purchased at discount stores is still my favorite for card modeling. I use the round metal end caps from frozen juice concentrate packages as palettes. I have an assortment of dental tools for applying tacky glue; these may be found in inexpensive packets at Harbor Freight Tool outlets.
