trying not to steal the thread on planetary gears, I see the
discussion has moved onto the planets and models about them, so I
figured it was time to start a new thread.  Mike has already pointed
out the paper models of the planets:

and that is a good half of the equation, but continuing with the other
half, the gears, brings me to one of my favorite topics and
fascinations: the orrery.

My own attempt at one was only to include the earth and moon:

but alas I have never been able to expand it to more of the solar
system.

I submit for your review this model of an orrery:

which is made from wood, but I have a feeling will convert at least
partially, to paper.

I have contacted the designer of this model and I'm hoping more will
come from this designer in the future, and even a possible release in
some form of this amazing automata.
