trying not to steal the thread on planetary gears, I see the discussion has moved onto the planets and models about them, so I figured it was time to start a new thread. Mike has already pointed out the paper models of the planets:
http://www.city.himeji.lg.jp/hoshinoko/kansoku/crafts/planet.html and that is a good half of the equation, but continuing with the other half, the gears, brings me to one of my favorite topics and fascinations: the orrery. My own attempt at one was only to include the earth and moon: http://jleslie48.com/sm2_orrery_ani1.gif and is available here: http://jleslie48.com/gallery_models_other.html but alas I have never been able to expand it to more of the solar system. I submit for your review this model of an orrery: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BY5DPhSyFQ which is made from wood, but I have a feeling will convert at least partially, to paper. I have contacted the designer of this model and I'm hoping more will come from this designer in the future, and even a possible release in some form of this amazing automata. The forum where he designed his orrery is here: http://brassgoggles.co.uk/bg-forum/index.php?topic=8006.0 and the final version is discussed in this thread: http://brassgoggles.co.uk/bg-forum/index.php?topic=12103.0 I'm very excited about this project and hope something comes out of it in this coming year. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Papermodels II" group.
