At different dollar stores, like Dollar General and Family Dollar, you can get strings of lights for backyard summer parties and BBQs. They have little plastic decorations over the bulbs like birds, lanterns, or flags that easily pop off. These lights are as bright, and sometimes brighter, than Christmas lights but don't get as hot since they are designed to have the thin plastic covering the bulbs. They run around $1 to $3 depending on the length of the string.
