Bob, 

I'd bet the difference in response could well be related to the communites 
involved.  I've never been to Pickens County, Georgia, but I know the Anaheim 
Hills Public Library quite well.  In my experience with that neighborhood, the 
residents were more focused on material interests than in being creative.  Yes, 
I'm applying a stereotype, but I grew up in the area, so I feel my opinion is 
qualified.

       David Okamura and I had a display at the Anaheim Hills, California 
library a few years back where we showed completed card models along with 
plastic models from other members of our IPMS Chapter. Judging on the response 
to your display -- your effort has much more merit. Even though there was 
considerable traffic, we picked up only one or two interested new card 
modelers.
