Typically, software is not sold like a book. That is, when you buy a
book, you have the right to do with it as you please, including
reselling it.  Software, though, is not sold as a physical object
(even if it is delivered to you on a CD or floppies, etc) What you buy
is a license to install and run that software on your computer.
Whether you can resell that license depends on the terms spelled out
in the license. Some allow it, some don't.

But really, as long as you aren't buying from a pirate who is mass
producing copies of the CD, and you are buying the original CD, I
don't see how the manufacturer is being harmed.
