Oh, well, there's that 3-D laser-pointer scanning system that was posted here a while ago, and maybe I have an old plotter I can bolt a glue gun to... combine that with the pepakura metal casting concept and we may have something! For me, one of the most salient points of the video was that "old school" custom parts machining seems to have gone the way of customer service telephone boiler rooms, to India. While that's probably a Good Thing for India, it's nice to know that American innovation stepped up to fill the void here at home. The scanner has gone from several dozen kilobucks to (I think the video said) three thousand, and another couple of iterations ought to bring it down to the same level as the ubiquitous paper scanner. The "printer" will be harder to do cheaper, but if there's enough demand for the long-fabled desktop "Santa Claus Machine", then it'll happen. Mark L.
