For me it depends on what I'm looking for in the finished model. As a for instance, on my redraw of Ninjatoes' Chaffee model, when I added the belt-line strips between the top and bottom of the hull, I deliberately added glue tabs to it so that it would be inset just a bit on the finished model, as the beltline of the original subject was recessed. I also prefer to use glue tabs when joining parts at deep angles, or anytime that one part is being used to hold the shape of another.
