The reason that first link would not work is because for some reason GoogleGroups adds a google.com/ to the front of an address if the http:// is not included. If an address is typed with just the www. at the front it will not work, the http:// needs to be included. Your link worked because you included the http:// at the front of the address. I usually look at the address bar if I get that page not found page and delete the added stuff from Google to get the page to load. :^)
