I'm probably giving you all old news, but I have been finding some good basic models of SF craft and vehicles on : rpgnow.com and affiliates. They are pretty basic and designed for 28mm wargaming. The addition of some 3d detailing, transrarent canopies and built-up cockpit details they become quite a lot of fun.
