Not only did the email go to my spam folder, but my filters sent
everything from the group to spam. At least it's thorough.

Yup. When one comes from a hijacked, but otherwise valid,
member
e-mail address, the filters won't catch it. That address is
now
moderated so *I* can catch any further SPAM from it.
For the most part, Google Groups is *very* good at catching
SPAM and
telling me about it.
