Great pics.

Thanks for posting this message Jason. I've never associated IPMS with paper
modeling but now you have made me think of the organization in a totally new
light.

Modeling is modeling after all.

Subject: [Papermodels II 45894] 2011 IPMS OrangeCon Paper Models

Greetings all,

On Oct 7th, The Orange County (CA) chapter of IPMS had it's annual OrangeCon
model show.  For the last few years we have been able to have a Paper Model
category in the show with good turnout.  This year there were fewer models, but
they were all very well done.  Attached are a few pictures I took.  If Bob
Penikas ever catches up on his e-mail, he may post more and better pics, but
here goes:

1b10_bp_sm.jpg  is Bob Penikas's Martin B-10 from a Fiddler's Green kit.  A
large model with an impressive color scheme, and a nice example of what Future
can do for a finish.

2tpnp_j(qm)_sm.jpg is a model of a German nuclear power plant, made by
John(?)(Sorry, John, we didn't get your last name) from a Thomas Pleiner kit.
Very neatly done.

3b17R_bp_sm.jpg ia Bob Penikas's kit-bash of a FG B-17 kit to represent a Burt
Rutan version of the venerable bomber.  He really ought to try flying it!  Off
to the right is Bob's '32 Ford street rod, heavily Futured for an outstanding
glossy finish.  I think it was from Zio Prudenzio's kit, but Bob may correct
that.  Upper center is Bob's beautiful little Pitt's Special, also from
Fiddler's Green. The Pitt's took third place in the judging.

4ap23_js_sm.jpg represents a Bison-class heavy transport cargo starship,
scratchbuilt by Jayo Sutton at 1/350 scale from data at Masao Okazaki's
Starfleet-Museum.com website. It had working running and position lights,
impulse drives, and warp nacelle Bussard collectors, and was built with
semi-gloss paper from Kelly Papers. The AP-23 took second place.  On the left
is a better view of Bob's Ford.

5105h_jn_sm.jpg was the First place winner, a 1/16 German 105mm light howitzer
built by Jim Nunn from a Polish DarfModel kit.  Yhis model has to be seen to be
believed, from the almost functioning breech-block to the gunner's tools to the
bolt heads on the frame. I don't know how he does it.

6105h_jn_sm.jpg is a close-up of the ready ammunition box with a projectile and
powder case removed.  The shell is 6.5mm (about 1/4") in diameter. The box
hinges and latches are functional.  This model was a masterpiece.

There were lots of positive comments from the public and a surprising amount of
interest from young persons.  All and all we had a great time.  Next year will
be even better!
