It is a sad thing to hear after coming back on the net from being off so long

My searches for Tucson area obituaries has come up empty, and the only information I have to this effect is from a Harpoon gaming site (which he was instrumental in founding). But it is consistent with his ill health over the last 5 years or so, and the lack of response to my recent emails. I'll follow up with a phone call when appropriate.... It's hard to tell how many will see this note, give the inactive status of the list. I'll try to post notices on the more "graphic" forums to let their subscribers know what has transpired. Saul was one-of-a-kind, to say the least. His career spanned several of the armed services and, as he approached retirement, he was instrumental in the online presence of card modeling. He started the Card Modelers list back when listserv's were the way to go (dial-up access and very slow downloads), and put up one of the first card modeling dedicated web sites in the late '90's. He was already a presence when I got started back around 1998 or '99. Saul served with me as an editor of the now-defunct "Air and Sea Models.com" -- probably the first online card modeling "e-zine" back in the early 2000's. And he was the creative force behind the "Card Modelers Onine" e-zine that started up when A&SM went dark. His reviews of commercially produced card models of the early 2000's were unabashedly honest. He liked to build quickly -- Saul was anything but a perfectionist -- and if he had a problem, he showed it to you in unequivocal words and photos. Many of the models he reviewed were before CAD design became prevalent, especially with Eastern European publishers. They could be imperfect builds, but that wasn't an issue for Saul. The real matter was to get the review and photos out so others could benefit from his experience. His service to the card modeling community was enormous. Saul also participated in the "Harpoon" gaming community, and served for a number of years as a docent at the Pima AZ Air and Space Museum. Truly one-of-a-kind... Despite the fact that I never met Saul in person, but only communicated with him by email and phone for 10+ years, I counted him as a friend. A friend who will be sorely missed. I'll be in Tucson this spring, and will find some way to pay my respects. Rest in Peace, Saul H. Jacobs. Bill Geoghegan PS: I have communicated with the manager of the Teuton web server that housed Saul's projects and will look for a way to retrieve the archives and make them available to those who want or need them." I didn't know Saul anywhere near as well as Bill did, and we didn't always see eye to eye, but there's a big hole in the community now. -- Mike Hungerford http://www.chthulhu.com/models.html -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Papermodels II" group.
