7/7/2008 11:19:00 AM Email this article Print this article Haunted hunting Ghost enthusiasts not afraid to face spirits from beyond By Timothy O'Connor 1-866-362-2167 Ext. 13860 [EMAIL PROTECTED] s.com LA PORTE COUNTY - For years, Pat Harrison thought she was half-crazy. It's not hard to see why: Hanging around cemeteries late at night can make people question their sanity. It even caused her ex-husband to damn her to hell. Harrison hasn't been deterred, however. She was ghost hunting again last week at a small spot near the Michigan border. Lightning flashes from a storm to the north and the glow of thousands of fireflies didn't help to ease the creepy atmosphere around the gravestones. But Harrison wasn't fazed; she's used to it by now. When she was about 5, Harrison's mom began taking her ghost hunting. The unusual hobby stayed with her into adulthood and, she said, helped develop a psychic connection with the other side. After Harrison's son, Chuck, was killed in a motorcycle accident she decided to start her own spirit-seeking organization, Mystic Investigations. If nothing else, the experience has proven her sanity to herself. "Evidently I'm not (crazy), because a lot of people are doing it," she said. For the past four years, she's been taking groups to cemeteries and other haunted areas around La Porte County looking for ghosts. Mystics Investigations is made up mostly of Harrison's family and friends, and the informality of the group lends itself to a different type of ghost hunt from what can be seen on TV, a less scientific kind. There are no thermal imaging cameras, no temperature meters and no tests to disprove a possible spirit sighting. Harrison said she knows the ghosts are out there, and she doesn't need tools to prove it. Instead, she relies more on mysticism. Harrison uses a metal pendulum to ask questions. It's like an Ouija board: The ball moves over the words "yes," "no" or "maybe" depending on the ghost's answer. She also relies a lot on feeling, calling herself an intuitive healer. It's obvious Harrison considers herself in step with the paranormal, but she still gets surprised sometimes, like when an entity pushed her into a fence. "There's always stuff that will scare you," she said. But she doesn't worry about running into something nasty, as Harrison thinks God protects her. She said the only way to bring out evil is to invoke evil. Because Harrison and her group avoid the darker side of ghost hunting, they allow themselves to focus on their curiosity. "For me, it's the unknown," said Mystic Investigations member Susan Birdsey. "It's comforting to know that there is life beyond your physical body." Others, like Amanda Lininger, even make friends with ghosts. "I like him," Lininger said while crouching before one grave. "I get a really good feeling." But watching the group makes it clear that Mystic Investigations is about more than connecting to the other side - it's about connecting with their families. Children join their parents in searching the cemetery; Harrison said kids are more aware of the paranormal. Both age groups are equally curious about spirits and they share their experiences with each other. But the adults seem even more eager. They're not just looking for ghosts, they're passing down a life long love of searching for the unknown. Just as Harrison's mom did with her. ------------------------------------ &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& Visit our Psychic/Paranormal message boards at http://www.skatemd.com/forums/index.php Arcade, Journals, Chats, Boards, Fun!Yahoo!
