Hi,
first of all, I appreciate your answer.
I think it would be useful to form a discussion forum (I suggest to create a sub-forum of Paraview forum).
But, by a practical point of view, I don't believe that a neutral format can be a good idea: in fact, I would like to write only one translator instead of two (ADINA to neutral and neutral to paraview): for example
we could use an ASCII file formatted using Ensight .case convections and, if in future we will want to add more features to the original format, we will develop some extension to this format.
To begin, just a question: how can I found a description of Ensight case files data formats?
Thank you a lot

Hi,

Just to let you know: I format beam data (pipes) from the ABAQUS results file so that ParaView visualizes them like "real" pipes. When I saw your note I thought that one should form a group on the net and discuss how to make an intemediate format. Then we users of (Adina, Ansys, ABAQUS, ...) first write our data into this format, from which we could then use one common translator into the ParaView formats.

E.g
NODE
n, x, y, z,

for beams
BEAM, ro,wt, 2node
n,i,j

DISP
n, ux,uy,uz,thetax,thetay,thetaz

..

It is easy to create such a file from any FEM code. And this format would be simple to turn into the ParaView formats.

Regards,

ChG

P.S. It is now nearly 30 years ago I used Adina, but as far as I remember the portholes were just simple sequential files where one could find this type of data. Is it not so?
