[But actually. The merge blocks filter, uses a vtkAppendFilter - which is a 
memory hog - then you pass the
output of this into another appendfilter - on large datasets this will be 
terrible. Much better to add
multiblock support to the appendfilter so that it only has to do the memnory 
allocation once.]
