Maybe this could be of interest, this is a list of debian packages you
need to have on your system for properly compile paraview:
#Global
apt-get install libphonon-dev libphonon4 libqt4-assistant qt4-dev-tools \
libqt4-core libqt4-gui qt4-qmake \
libxt-dev \
g++ gcc cmake-curses-gui
# With MPI (using openmpi, you can use any other flavour)
apt-get install openmpi-common openmpi-bin libopenmpi-dev
# with Python
apt-get install python2.5-dev
