I don't think there are plans to move paraview to git anytime in the
near future.

Git can export commits to a cvs checkout.  Also, paraview developers
who use git can easily pull commits from other people's git forks of
paraview.  Even though paraview is still cvs based you can take nearly
full advantage of git with paraview.
