What about switching views with TAB? There is that blue border on the
"active" widget. It sort of tempts you to first activate the other view
before doing anything there.

It's because of the way selections on table views in Qt work. Short of
having Qt folks fix the behavior I don't see any non-hackish way of
dealing with it.

I see, if I "carefully" select the spreadsheet view then nothing is lost. It
would be nice that clicking on the blank part doesn't clear your selection,
but I see that this probably isn't easily realised. Somehow, I got used to
just click into emtpy space to activate a widget, although I know that going
straight to the buttons or just use the mousewheel works as well.

1) Have your objects in a 3D view and don't select anything. Then split
your
view and start a spreadsheet view. Select points in your 3D and switch
back
to spreadsheet view. Selection is gone.
2) In the 3D view and select some points. Open up a spreadsheet view.
Switch
between those two Views. Selection is gone.
How are you making the spreadsheet view active? Are you clicking in
the blank part or the part showing data in the spreadsheet view? That
clears the selection in the spreadsheet view. You should click on the
titlebar or scrollbar or the headers.
