Indeed the error message is continuously being repetead in the output
window.
I guess it is the reason why the gui is much slower when interacting
with the chart.

Is your problem that it keeps repeating the error message? If
so, this is a bug I fixed in HEAD, I will ensure it is backported for
the ParaView 3.8.1 release.
