Edit->Settings->RenderView->Depth Peeling, make sure "Enable Depth Peeling" is not checked. Depth peeling is the algorithm ParaView uses to enforce a correct front to back order of translucent rendered geometry. It is fairly graphics hardware intensive. David E DeMarle Kitware, Inc.
