Hmmm, you are right, no longer binaries for 4.8! They used to be there.
There are binaries for 5.0 but I guess that's not officially supported
by vtk/pv. :-(

Hi
You should be able to install the Qt libraries in any directory, I've
been using 4.8.2 ( http://qt-project.org/downloads). Once you unpack
the binaries into your desired location, you need to prepend
PATH/LD_LIBRARY_PATH appropriately, and when building paravlew point
to your install via pv's "qmake exe" variable. This worked for me.

Right. I understand, and fortunately for me, the systems I mostly work
on are in our group and I can basically install what I want. If there's
any room for negotiation, the "epel" repository is somewhat
semi-official,
kinda.
Otherwise then, I hope Utkarsh can remove the dependency!
