Noted. Feel free to report a bug on the bug tracker (http://paraview.org/Bug). I am not sure how this could be addressed but let's see. The problem ends up being specific writers can pick filename variants based on the nature of the data they are writing and that information is not available to the UI when it shows the Save Data dialog.
