ParaView/VTK really doesn't support mixing two overlapping volumes. Without going into the details, suffice it to say that the rendering implementation will result in one of the volumes always on "top" of the other. An alternative is to to render the volumes in 2 separate views, side-by-side and then link the camera together to interact simultaneously with the two views -- enabling similar comparison. Another option is to extract isosurfaces (contours) from the two volumes and then render those as surface with opacity < 1. Multiple overlapping surfaces with translucency should work fine.
