Leo,

The issue was that the exporer was warning unnecessarily when exporting
empty datasets. At the same time, it would end up modifying the exported
file partially for the empty dataset. This MR should fix both issues:
https://gitlab.kitware.com/vtk/vtk/merge_requests/2197

Do you think you can test it out before we merge this in?
