Sure, you can, but it may be slow. Could you define your subdomains in a regular grid structure with a number of even divisions in X, Y, and Z? If so, you may be better off creating a grid structure with your 200 subdomains and then use the vtkCellLocator approach I outlined earlier in this thread.
