I think you can use Python, and PythonQt to make a fake "record" button
press, after the desired amount of time.
Just try this:
def myfunc():
    vv.app.actions['actionRecord'].toggle()
    print ("Toggled recording")

qq=QtCore.QTimer()
qq.setSingleShot(True)
qq.connect('timeout()',myfunc)
recordingTimeInMilliseconds = 60 * 1000
qq.start(recordingTimeInMilliseconds)
