dear all,
mau sharing aja, pertama kali sy tau kalau madu memang tidak utk dikonsumsi
bayi waktu sy baca brosur tentang 'feed the baby' dari mothercare, lalu sy
konfirmasi ke DSA anak sy & beliau membenarkan. masih penasaran, sy googling &
search di internet, dan ketemu banyak artikel ttg larangan konsumsi madu
ini..
coba para moms & dads yg msh gak yakin utk cari2 info lg tentang konsumsi madu
utk baby..
untuk amannya tunda sj pemberian madu sampai anak kita berusia setidaknya 1
thn. kalau sy pribadi sih ngikut apa pendapat para ahli aja...
utk nambah2 referensi moms & dads, berikut tentang madu yg sy kutip dari buku
"what to expect the first year" by arlene eisenberg, heidi e. murkoff & sandee
e. hathaway (page 221):
No Honey For Your Little Honey.
Honey not only offers little more than empty calories, it also poses a health
risk in the first year. It may contain the spores of Clostridium Botulinum,
which in this form is harmless to adults but can cause botulism (with
constipation, weakened sucking, poor appetite and lethargy) in babies.
This serious though rarely fatal illness can lead to pneumonia and dehydration.
Some doctors okay honey at 8 months, others recommend waiting till year's end.
semoga bermanfaat.
regards,
mama zenya

Honey: Why isn't it safe for infants?
I've heard that you shouldn't give honey to infants.
Why?
No name / No state given
Never give honey to infants younger than 2 year. Honey
is a known
source of
bacterial spores that produce the bacterium
Clostridium botulinum. This
bacterium makes a toxin that can cause infant
botulism. This rare but
serious form of food poisoning affects a baby's
nervous system and can
result in death. Unlike adults, infants haven't
developed beneficial
bacteria in their digestive tracts that can control
botulism spores and
prevent growth of the bacterium and production of its
toxin.
Signs and symptoms of infant botulism include:
Persistent constipation
Floppy arms, legs and neck
Weak cry due to muscle weakness
Weak sucking and poor feeding
Tired all the time (lethargy)
Botulism spores are also found in uncooked food. For
this reason, feeding
an infant any undercooked food is risky as well.
salam,
mamileon
