This weekend I've been reading Trac tickets which have not been touched
for nine months or more. In TT #473
(http://trac.parrot.org/parrot/ticket/473) Andy Dougherty suggested that
certain probes in config/auto/cpu/auto.pm could be eliminated because
their results were never used.
I have created a branch in the repository to test this suggestion out.

So far I have good results. I would appreciate getting tests on other
OSes using i386 as well, particularly:
* Win32
* Darwin
* FreeBSD
