I've profiled this before, and the biggst culprit is the parse phase. We need benchmarks for NQP-rx, especially memory benchmarks. I suspect there are potential optimizations in NQP-rx, but I also suspect that our naive register allocator is suboptimal, and I wonder if a lingering GC bug hurts as well.
