Sorry about that. I don't know why git format-patch generated a patch
that git am couldn't apply. (I actually don't ever recall using "git am"
successfully, so I hadn't tested it.) I didn't send a pull request because
I have no idea what one is or how to send it, and don't have the time or
inclination to learn yet another system.
In any case, it looks like Jim sorted it all out.
