To sum it up: have there any Linux test failures or hangs been noticed after commit d752612c98239aab90442e0e2d08e149217ac93c? If yes, then there's probably a race condition in the timer thread that may cause problems on all platforms. If not, then the problem probably lies in subtle differences of the platform's implementation of POSIX and we have to investiagte further in this direction. In any case it would help tremendously if I could reproduce these problems (which I have had no success with) or access some system where the problems are reproducible.
