bacek, thanks for the suggestion, but it is worth holding on to the
potential optimization of platform-native bytecode.
The solution to the bytecode testing problem is to make it possible for
all platforms to read and write bytecode for another platform, and to test
freshly generated bytecode rather than (out-of-date) bytecode checked into
the repository.
