I have not had this problem and I have build with gcc/g++ with or without
--optimize on ubuntu 10.04 amd64 and i386. This uses gcc/g++ version
4.4.3 and I think the standard --optimize is -O2.
I have never attempted to use higher levels of --optimize.
Will see what happens
