 Coke,

Am I correct in thinking that you want 'verbose' output to be turned on by
default, and then to be automatically printed to a log file?

If so, then should we continue to offer the `--verbose-step` option?

FWIW, the various configuration steps differ considerably in the amount of
verbose output they can generate. I honestly don't think generating a
''configure.verbose.log'' file every time I configure is more helpful than
turning on `--verbose-step` when I really have a problem.

 Thank you very much.
