hello, every time i make partitions with parted i get the message, that the partition is not aligned for best performance.
but how will the program align for best performance if it don't know, how many sectors one cylinder have and the actual harddisks have cylinders with different count of sectors. i think that only an align at the physical sector size is good. i make the partions for my big drives with 4k-sektors start with sector number 64 so i have 64 (8 physical) sectors before the start of the partition and if more as one partition, the next will start at a first 512byte part of a physical sector. i think, that the alignment check from parted should be change to start at physical sector-size and not at first sector of a cylinder because this is an unknown information. and in this cause, it is possible, that the partion can start in the middle of a physical sector and this is bad. i hope that you will change this in the future. goodby Schau auch einmal auf meine Homepage (http://privat.dieter-ferdinand.de).
