It should not be necessary.
The Makefile.in.in is supposed to provide everything needed.
BTW, updating Makefile.in.in is on my short list.
Doing that should suppress this warning:
parted: config.status: WARNING: po/Makefile.in.in seems to ignore the
--datarootdir setting
